Badging the first examples of a new car as special launch editions has become common practice, especially when there’s a certain amount of hype involved. Toyota did it with the new Supra, Jeep did it with the Gladiator pickup truck, and Ford offered the same thing with a limited run of First Editions of the new Mustang Mach-E. Now, just six weeks after its reveal, the order books for the 2021 Ford Mach-E First Edition are full. Ford declined to say how many First Editions were going to be made, but it did share some interesting stats on the pre-orders.

The Mach-E isn’t Ford’s first attempt at an EV, but it’s no doubt the Blue Oval’s biggest attempt to take a chunk of Tesla’s market share so far. Reserving a First Edition required a $500 deposit, and apparently enough people did it to sell out Ford’s allocation of that special model. A vast majority of the reservations were specified with the Extended Range Battery. That means buyers will get 270 to 300 miles of range, depending on whether they opt for all-wheel drive or not.

Speaking of AWD, just over half of the orders—about 55 percent according to Ford—also chose AWD. No word on more specific combinations like which number of AWD reservations also went for the bigger battery. Carbonized Gray has proven to be the most popular color so far, making up 38 percent of the reservations. Grabber Blue Metallic was a close second at 35 percent, and Rapid Red made up the last 27 percent of orders.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, more than a quarter of all the reservations made so far have come from California alone. Looks like Mustangs and the legendary California coast is still a winning combination. Curiously, the California Route 1 edition (yes, that is a real thing) is still available, though. In fact, if you were hoping to get your hands on one of the first Mach-E electric SUVs, hope is not lost. There are four other trims that interested buyers can still put down a $500 deposit on, including the performance oriented GT or the Premium edition. Though Ford wouldn’t share how many First Editions it’s building, a spokesperson did say the automaker will limit sales of the Mach-E to 50,000 units globally for the first 12 months of production.
