Porsche’s options list is one of the most expensive in the car industry, with everything from exhausts, to LED lighting, to leather-covered air vent slats on offer. But, if the options list is just too exhaustive for you (as it is for some of us), there’s always Porsche’s GTS offerings. Essentially, when Porsche bestows the GTS trim on one of its models it throws in all the performance goodies you want, with none of the cosmetic frills you don’t—until you start digging into the options list again, that is.

Today, the Stuttgart-based SUV… erm, sorry… sports car maker announced the 2020 Porsche Macan GTS. Like the GTS models before it, the new Macan GTS sits above the Macan S and below the Turbo models.

The new GTS gets 15 more horsepower than before, bringing the 2.9-liter turbocharged V-6’s output to 375 ponies. The car also gets a revised PDK, and Porsche say the new GTS will sprint to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (4.5 with the optional Sport Chrono package) and top out at 162 mph. Porsche’s estimates are typically quite conservative, however. A pre-refresh 2017 Macan GTS on summer tires hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds in our tests.

The GTS comes standard with Porsche’s adaptive air suspension, which can lower the ride height of the car by 10mm (0.4 inch). Stoppers measure 14.1 inches in diameter up front and 12.9 inches in the rear, and just like last time, Porsche’s excellent carbon ceramic brakes are an option.

Up front, the headlights have been darkened slightly, complementing the more aggressive front fascia. The rear light bar looks a little stealthier. The price for all this extra sportiness? Porsche will ask $72,650 to start for the new car. Porsche says the new Macan GTS “impresses with the agility and responsiveness of a true sports car.” We’ll be happy to test that claim as soon as we get our hands on one.
