Is today April 12? Because it appears we found an Easter egg in Porsche’s commercial for Super Bowl LIV. Specifically, it appears the German sports-car brand snuck the upcoming, next-generation 911 GT3 into the background of the ad. Don’t believe us? Then click to the 44-second mark and have a look for yourself.
See it now? Yes, that blue 911 positioned behind the yellow GT2 RS is no ordinary 992-series Porsche. Cues such as its big rear wing positioned above a ducktail spoiler, chunky 10-spoke wheels, massive brakes, and aggressive front splitter show this 911 quite clearly to be the upcoming GT3—a fact which was confirmed to us as the new GT3 by a Porsche PR representative. Don’t feel bad if you missed it on your first watch of the ad; with black brake calipers and a chrome window line, the race-inspired 911 model barely calls attention to itself.
Like the previous 911 GT3, the upcoming model is anticipated to once again rely on a naturally aspirated flat-six engine for motivation. Expect more than 500 horsepower on tap and an available manual transmission to once again make the GT3 the 911 model that perfectly blends driving engagement with outlandish performance. Meanwhile, the aforementioned chrome window line on the Super Bowl ad GT3 leads us to believe the model will once again offer a Touring trim. Likewise, it’s possible the automaker will allow buyers to mix and match elements from the standard GT3 with those of the Touring trim.
Regardless, we expect to learn more about the new 911 GT3 in the coming months; possibly as soon as the Geneva show in March. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for any other Easter eggs Porsche may drop that allude to upcoming variants of its rear-engined sports car.
