With the release of the new 2020 Land Rover Defender at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week, JLR has fulfilled the wishes of enthusiasts, overlanders, and adventurers around the world. As we covered in our photo history of the Land Rover Defender, the British SUV has been known by many names over the past 70-plus years, and the JLR team has dumped thousands of hours into perfecting the latest iteration of this automotive icon. From its 95-percent new body structure and extreme stiffness, to a newfound focus on efficiency with the addition of a 48-volt system, plug-in hybrid powertrain, and slippery 0.38 coefficient of drag, the new model looks to marry loads of new tech with the awesome off-road capability the Defender has become famous for. With all that in mind, the new L663 looks poised to carry the Defender nameplate into the future.
