Our longing for the new Corvette Z06 only increased after learning it would get a flat-plane-crank twin-turbo V-8. But this new footage has us pretty excited about the standard Stingray, too. A video taken at a Chevy presentation has surfaced online showing the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray hitting its top speed of 194 mph.
As you can hear in the video, the Corvette was taken to the track in Papenburg, Germany, a location Chevrolet often uses for top speed testing. It was here that the 2019 Corvette ZR1 hit 212 mph. According to the presenter, Chevrolet verified this number by running the C8 in both directions around the track—unlike some other top speed claims we recently covered.
The Stingray packs quite a punch for a base Corvette. Its 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 makes 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, or 495 hp and 470 lb-ft when equipped with an optional performance exhaust. Chevy also says it will be the quickest Corvette ever when equipped with the Z51 performance package, launching from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.0 seconds. Sadly, there’s no manual; an eight-speed dual-clutch is the only transmission available.
Making the Corvette’s performance figures even sweeter is the low starting price. The Stingray will start at $59,995 when it goes on sale early next year. A Performance Data Recorder is standard on the 2LT trim level to record your hottest track runs. The tool has been upgraded with a high-definition resolution camera and new user interface inside the vehicle.
